Colin: One-Week Old

FYI...This post has lots of rambling but it's basically my journal to remember what our time was like so feel free to ignore. :-)

We headed home after being discharged from the hospital and took a nap before picking up Drake. Our friend, Kayte, was so generous and set up meals to be delivered for us shortly before and after Colin was born through TakeThemAMeal.com. Can I just say what a blessing this has been?? We had a meal the night before we had him and we'll have plenty of food through next week which is awesome. It's so nice not to worry about what we're going to eat when trying to adjust to having two kiddos at home and still maintain the rest of our life.

On Saturday, we had our first outing...a 1st birthday party for one of the kids in our small group. Don't worry...Colin was safe and sound in the Moby wrap. It was a pretty nice day except the scattered rain drops, and we did have a couple people try to grab at the wrap and take a peak. I was actually pretty surprised that they would reach for the wrap when you couldn't even see him. Thankfully no one asked to hold him! We stayed for a couple hours and then headed home.

Sunday was pretty low-key at our house. Our friend, Kate, stopped by with some Pampers diapers..THANK YOU!! We only had 2 packs of newborn size diapers in the house in addition to what we brought home from the hospital. I was changing Colin in his room on Saturday and grabbed an Up & Up diaper and at his next diaper change, he was totally red! Poor baby. I felt so bad. We knew Pampers were okay and when Kate asked what we needed, that's what first came to mind. Needless to say, I'll be taking that package to church for another baby to use.

Colin had a doctor's appointment on Monday for his circumcision and a weight/jaundice check. His circ went well. The same doctor that did Drake's did Colin's so I'm sure it will heal nicely. He uses the plasti-bell which is awesome because you don't have to do anything to it. Colin weighed in at 7lbs 11.5oz so up a half ounce from Friday which I thought was pretty good (Drake has dropped quite a bit at this point). This makes me very hopeful to meet my goal of nursing for at least 6 months. Unfortunately, his jaundice level was over double what it was when we left the hospital at 15.1! Dr. Rosa wanted us to get a blood draw to get a more accurate measurement...not fun watching that. Thankfully, it came back at 14.6. We were instructed to supplement each feeding with up to 1 ounce of formula, give him Vitamin D once a day, get in the sun as much as possible and come back on Tuesday for another check. So, we headed outside!

Shortly before bed, Drake climbed up on the couch to "read" a book to Colin..melt my heart!! (He did this all on his own.)

On Tuesday morning, we had pictures taken. We got a few family shots as well as Colin's newborn pictures. Barbie posted a few on Facebook, and I can't wait to see what the rest of them look like! I'll be sure to post here when I get the CD. After pictures, we raced to Colin's jaundice and weight check. This time he weighed in at 7lbs 11oz and his jaundice was 15.6...about the same as yesterday. We're to continue on the same path and come back on Thursday for another check. I think she's most concerned about the jaundice number. Hopefully it will be down when we go back.

We had another outing on Tuesday night to Jason's nephew's ballgame. (I'll be posting pics from that later.)

Today has been spent hanging out at the house, and we got a visit from the Beasley family.

Colin,

Today you are 1 WEEK OLD! Time is already going so quickly. Your sleep is very sporadic although I think we are getting into a routine. I'm feeding you every 2-2.5 hours during the day in hopes that you will go a little longer overnight. Last night, you went from 9:45pm-1:20am! After that you were up off and on until 4am, but then went from 4-6:45am between feedings! You are usually a great eater. You don't like to be fully swaddled and you would really prefer to sleep on  your side or with a blanket in your face, but that makes me nervous. Since your circ on Monday, you have been taking a paci which we are okay with. Your big brother likes to give you kisses and help give you your paci, but we have to remind him to be very gentle with you.
We love you so much, Colin, and even though it's only been a week, it's hard to imagine what life was like before you were here.  We can't wait to watch you grow each and every day!
Love,
Momma

Hey Amber, All my kids had jaundice and they are all just fine. I never supplemented either. Their counts were higher than Colin's was, he should be just fine. The biggest thing to do is feed him more often. And the sunlight :) SO happy for you though.
