Colin: 2 Month Dr. Appointment

Colin had his 2 month doctor appointment today. We couldn't get into our pediatrician so we saw the nurse practitioner who we really like. She said Colin looked great!

Weight: 12lbs 1oz (45th percentile)
Height: 24 inches (88th percentile)

I'm guessing he'll pass his brother right up in height and weight, but only time will tell. (Drake was 12lbs 9oz at his 4 month appointment!)

He had an oral vaccine and three shots...poor little guy. Our next visit is at 4 months.

Colin: 2 Months!

Dear Colin,

You are two months old!!

You are on a good schedule now eating every three hours at 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, and 7pm. Your awake time is typically 1-1.5 hours and if you have slept and eaten well, you are a really happy baby. You slept in a borrowed Rock 'n Play in your room until about 7.5 weeks when we had to transition you to the crib. You will consistently give us 5-6 hours straight, but we've had a few nights of 7 hours and even one night when you slept 8 hours and last night you slept 8.5 hours!! Of course, since you are going down around 7pm, that means you're up about 3:30am. :-)

Most of your naps are in the swing if we're home or you're great at napping in the carseat when we are on the go. You will lay on the playmat or sit in the bouncer for short periods of time, but you like a change of scenery. If we've been home all day and are fussing, you instantly quiet down when we go outside.

Tummy time is going well. You will usually lay there for a while. When you are up on our shoulders, you are great at holding your head up!

The clogged tear ducts are both cleared up and cradle cap has come and gone. Yeah!

You're wearing size 1 diapers and size 3 months clothes. Your doctor's appointment is tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure you are over 12 pounds - such a big boy!

We love to see you smiling at us and our family and friends who talk to you! Your big smile is so precious!

Happy two month birthday, Colin!!

Love,
Momma

Happy Birthday, Jason!

Yesterday was the hubby's 37th birthday!

The morning started out with Colin helping him do the crossword puzzle in the paper.

And then a trip to Miller Park Zoo:

(touching an armadillo)

After naps, we had dinner at Flat Top Grill and come home to put the boys to bed. Unfortunately, the birthday boy had to go to into work, but it was a nice day otherwise (and Colin's first trip to the zoo!).

Fun Run!

Our local running club hosts a Fun Run for Kids on Friday evenings during the summer. We first heard about this years ago when some of our neighbor kids participated so when I saw information about it this year, I knew I wanted to try it out with Drake. Kids can do it basically as soon as they start walking (or running :-)).

We went the very first night and Drake only ran a very short distance before he wanted Jason to carry him. Since it's been so hot we haven't gone, but Friday night was beautiful so headed over. Drake ran almost the whole way and had a lot of fun.

They run based on ages. The first group - 2 and under - goes first and they run half of the track. Then, the 3-year olds run one complete lap. And it continues on until all of the kids have gone.

You can get a t-shirt and they get a ribbon every time they run.

All that running makes a boy thirsty! :-)

It's a nice, cheap (only $1!) activity for us to do with him. Next Friday is the last one and trophy night! :-)

From One to Two

I started this post a few weeks ago and had lots of thoughts, but it seems like it's been so hard to process them and get them down in a post.

I'll be completely honest here...I never really thought about what the dynamics would be like with a toddler and a newborn in our house. Colin is 8 weeks old today, and I can definitely say we are finally in a good routine.

When we brought Colin home, I felt like I was giving all of my attention to him, and Jason felt like he was giving all of his attention to Drake. Let's face it - we were. Colin was nursing all.the.time which meant that Jason was taking care of Drake's needs. Around the 6 week mark, Colin got into a much better schedule, and each of us finally felt like we were giving attention to both kids. Now, at the 8 week mark, it's just busy. It's all good and I wouldn't trade any of it, but it's busy.

Drake really loves Colin. He always wants to know where Colin is, touch/kiss him, give him his paci, or wake him up when he is sleeping. Yea, we are working on that last one. Unfortunately, because he wants to be so close to Colin all the time, he usually does something he knows he's not supposed to (like pull on his legs/arms, cover his face with his lovey, push him, or touch his eyes/mouth, even giving him "knuckles" to the head). So, he is usually in time out at least once a day. We continually remind him that Colin is a baby, and we have to be gentle. It is definitely the worst when I am feeding Colin so if you have any suggestions on how to keep Drake focused on something else while I'm feeding Colin, I will gladly take them. :-)

Colin is now on a great schedule eating every three hours (7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm) and napping in between. He's usually awake for about an hour and 15 minutes at each feeding so we have a little play time and some tummy time. During the day, he's been napping in the swing downstairs. Eventually, we'll move his nap(s) to his crib. We give him a bath about 6:30pm and put him down after his bottle at 7pm. I nurse him at all feedings except this one where he gets a 5oz bottle, and I pump a couple hours later. He's been sleeping about 6-7 hours the first stretch and then will go back down until about 7am which is awesome.

I am so blessed to have a husband who is a partner in raising our children. I couldn't imagine doing it by myself.

Splash Park!

It has been so hot here (like upper 90s with heat index in the 100s) for the past two weeks that we really haven't done much outside. This morning, we met a friend and her daughter at the splash park to stay cool.

We grabbed lunch at McD's and headed home for naps. It's been a great day!

Summer Birthdays

This weekend was our Summer Birthday celebration at our house. We spent some time in the pool before we got a desperately needed downpour of rain! After swimming, we had dinner and hung out until everyone was ready to pass out from the day.

The birthday group - my mom, Jason, my dad, and my niece, Nicole
I think she liked her new sweatshirt...how about you? Now, if I could just convince her to come down here to school. :-)

Uncle Stewart & Aunt Pam

We had a couple visitors on Tuesday! Jason's Uncle Stewart and Aunt Pam stopped by to meet Colin and visit Drake. We don't see them too often so it was nice of them to stop by when they were in town. Unfortunately, Jason was at work so he didn't get to see them, but we'll see them again next month at the family reunion.
