Transfer

It has been a pretty good day. We got to the hospital at 8:15, took my valium, and got drinking my water! Last time my bladder was so full, I actually had to relieve half of it before they could do the transfer so this morning, I only drank about 20 ounces. The biologist came in with a picture of the two embryos we were going to transfer...one compacted (they don't grade these) and one 7-cell (grade 3). Then began the conversation of how the other three were doing. Two weren't doing so well - a 3-cell and 4-cell, but the 3rd one wasn't too bad...a 7-cell. Jason and I decided that we wouldn't talk to Dr. Jarrett about transferring three unless the fertilization report we got this morning warranted it. Since we really only had the possibility of freezing one (if it made it), I started asking questions. My basic thought was that I'm not sure about paying $600 to freeze one embryo knowing that we would have to do another fresh cycle in order to get more to freeze. And, who knows if this one lone embryo would survive the freeze. I could tell the biologist wasn't sure about three due to my age (31), but I also let them know that we have been trying for 5 years next week! Dr. Jarrett overheard our conversation as he was walking by so he came in to discuss it with us. I must have been pretty convincing because...he let us transfer THREE!!!!!!!!!!
So, here is what happens after a 3-day transfer:

1dpt ..embryo is growing and developing
2dpt... Embryo is now a blastocyst
3dpt....Blastocyst hatches out of shell on this day
4dpt.. Blastocyst attaches to a site on the uterine lining
5dpt.. Implantation begins,as the blastocyst begins to bury in the lining
6dpt.. Implantation process continues and morula buries deeper in the lining
7dpt.. Morula is completely inmplanted in the lining and has placenta cells & fetal cells
8dpt...Placenta cells begin to secret HCG in the blood
9dpt...More HCG is produced as fetus develops
10dpt...More HCG is produced as fetus develops
11dpt...HCG levels are now high enough to be immediately detected on HPT

YAY!! So excited for you. :)

Some tips that were passed on to me this last time.

#1 Keep the laptop completely off of your stomach.

#2 Stay on bedrest as long as possible (I did 72 hours and only took showers and went to the bathroom)

#3 Don't lift anything over 10 lbs, once off bedrest

That's all I will write. :) I'm praying this one works, girl.

((hugs))

Congrats on what sounds like a really promising transfer!

I also have to say that I'm very impressed that you were able to go to the bathroom and just relieve half. I don't know how people do that! For me, it's all or nothing and it's by far the worst part of the whole transfer process.

I'll check back during your 2WW to keep you company and to see how things are going.

Good luck!
