Today's Blood Test

So, I'm not really sure what to think?!?!?! I took an at home test on Saturday morning that showed a faint second line (positive test), on Sunday I started spotting, and today I appear to have a full on period? However, when I had my blood drawn today, my hcg level rose...what?? Yep, it was at 18.5 (still not a good number). Apparently, the doctors/nurses can't tell me what the heck is going on with my body! I am assuming that it rose and is now falling since what I can tell from the internet home tests don't typically read until your hcg is over 25. The other not so great news is that my progesterone level was at 6.5 (they like 15-20 to support a pregnancy). That is the amount in my blood stream, but they know I am at more than that since I doing the vaginal inserts twice a day which are 100ml.

The other interesting thing they told me today is that an hcg between 5 and 25 is a gray area...are you kidding me??? They didn't mention that on Friday and said that I had a positive test. The other thing that is interesting is that hcg is usually only in your system if you are pregnant so something is definitely going on!

I go in for another blood test on Friday to see what changes there are in my hcg level, so we'll see what happens. At this point, I know there is nothing I can do except rely on God. Please keep praying for our test results on Friday as well as for Jason and I.

I'm very sorry.

HCG should double at least every 48 hours. Today's should have been 24.2 to be a "good" number. Now, sometimes it takes longer to double, sometimes up to 72 hours, but that's more rare. Your number today wasn't too far away from that, so I wouldn't say it's definitely a m/c just yet. The heavy bleeding does point to the end, but I have seen things where 2 embryos implant, one m/c and the other one still hangs in there. Do you know if you had more than one follicle at your insemination? Another reason for bleeding can be a SCH (which is like a blood filled cyst).

I wish you all the luck for the next blood test and hope beyond hope that there was a reason for your bleeding.

As for the HPTs, your test simply picked up the 12.2 you had. Many tests actually pick up much less than 25, but they don't advertise it. (you did say your hcg level was 12.2 on saturday, the same day you took a home test, right?). So I don't think it's falling just yet. I think it was 12.2 on saturday and rose to the 18 something today. I'm sorry your doctor didn't tell you about the "under 25" rule of hcg levels. But not all low levels mean m/c - all pregnancies have to start at zero, right?

Again, I wish you luck.

Hey Amber, I don't know if this will encourage you but my first and last pregnancies (both girls) I had period type bleeding for a day and then spotting for the next few. I was told it was the egg implanting deeply that caused the bleeding. Will be praying for you as I know how scary it is to not know what is going on. Are you scheduled for an ultrasound? I would say put your feet up and drink lots and lots of water! But you are so right to rely on God because HE is in control. Love you girl.

Hey Amber! I'm praying for you and Jason. In BOTH my pregnancies, my HCG level was not ideal and (at least with Ellie) I was taking the progesterone up to 5 times a day. It never got to the place they wanted it, but God was in control. And, I bleed my entire first trimester with Ellie, no lie. It was like one long period. Ridiculous and scared me to death, but it just assured me that God was in control. He's still the same God that is in control of you, this baby and this pregnancy. Praying with confidence. :-)
