To find out or not to find out?

Jason and I are still trying to decide if we are going to find out the sex of this baby. I think it will be a surprise either way, but I just don't know what I want to do. I love to plan and have things organized so that is one good thing to finding out, but I also want to have something be a bit of a surprise to everyone (besides what he/she looks like) when the baby is born. I also think it would be hard to keep the name quiet once we decide if we find out the sex.

I have done the typical "tests" and here are the results:

Chinese calendar says girl.

http://www.babybpm.com/ said girl twice and boy twice! :-)

I haven't done the new IntelliGender test - personally, I think it is a waste of money and we haven't done the one where you hang something over your belly.

As for my guess - I was really feeling like it was a girl for quite a while, but I am just not sure now. We don't have any names picked out yet, but we seem to be finding more girl names that we agree on than boy names.

One idea I saw is to find out and announce the sex at your baby shower! I think this is a really cute idea, but that would mean that I have to hold it in for almost nine weeks before the first shower. I guess that is better than trying to hold it in for 20 weeks, right? And, I am having more than one shower so some people will find out before others. It should work since they will be in different cities, but who knows. There are so many decisions to make!

Good thing we still have 5 weeks to decide what we are going to do!

I second what Jamie said...I would be dying to find out what we were having. If you don't...you are much stronger than me :-)

I have to know! I agree that the idea of announcing at your shower is kind of cute, but I don't think I could keep quite that long. Another cute thing I've seen is making the announcement with a special cake - it's either pink or blue inside and everyone sees it when you cut into it.

There is no way I was going to be able to wait 9 months to find out. It was hard enough to wait 20 weeks! Plus, I didn't want a gender-netural nursery/clothes/baby items.

Found your blog while I was "hopping" today.

Congrats!

We are debating whether to find out....we have our BIG ultrasound next week!!!! This is my second.....so I'll only have one shower....and we thought about revealing then. What to do, what to do???

I think finding out gives you so much more time to get everything organized ...and even call the baby by name....for the rest of your pregnancy...

I'm dying to find out (on Monday, so exciting!). I have two main reasons:

1) I'm a logical, organised person, I couldn't get the nursery done without knowing

2) when my sister was pregnant she found out and straight away started calling her bump by the name. This made the baby seem so much more real (which I desperately need to feel) and also made us all feel like we knew her and her little personality before she was born.

Take your time and think about what you want to do - you can always not find out and then find out at a later scan but you can't unlearn it once you know!

If you find out you might as well tell right away so people can buy you that gender clothing for your showers otherwise you will end up with lots of white, green and yellow clothing for the new baby. Or you will have to return natural clothing for something pink or blue. I did it both ways and I have to say there are positives to both but finding out I think was my favorite that is why we did it 3 out of the 4 kids :) We also told the name but that was just us I know people who waited to tell the name. Whatever you decide it really isn't going to matter that much after the baby is born, it can only be a boy or girl ;) Just my 2 cents!

This is the ONLY time in your life when you can truly be surprised...I say wait!!! :) It's always so much fun guessing and see what the heartbeat is at with each appointment...girl one time, boy the next! :) It's another fun add to your blog - a baby gender poll!! :)

Plus...what if they are wrong!!! I know that's hard to do these days but you hear the stories!! ;)

I would want to find out for sure. I'm not a big fan of the gender-neutral decorations and clothes.

I do plan on keeping the name under wraps if I can. I think that I'll need to make sure that the baby's name "fits" and I don't want to hear anyone's opinions about the name.

What fun problems to have!

Wow, I can't imagine a day where I would have enough self restraint to NOT find out! LOL...I'm actually hoping that we get in for another u/s before our gender scan so we can find out even earlier!

Someone I know had the dr seal the gender in an envelope and she gave it to her friend who threw the shower. The friend made a cake with pink frosting in the middle, and so it was a surprise for everyone, including the new parents :) I thought that was such a cute idea!
