The Great Grocery Challenge

Walgreens: OOP $12.26, Saved $44.56!

Meijer: OOP $32.73, Saved $24.05!
Not a bad trip since I picked up a few things that weren't on sale (sugar, cinnamon, batteries).

CVS: OOP $0.39, Saved $5.03!
I was really hoping to get the great deal on the Huggies Slip-On diapers this week, but out of my four stores...none of them had them by Tuesday! This is when I wished shopping worked for me on Sundays. Instead, I just went in for their free items (which you can see really aren't free when you have to pay sales tax...still a good deal).

Sam's Club: OOP $2.99, Saved $0!
I needed to stop somewhere for milk and I thought they would be the same price or cheaper on milk than running into Meijer. Boy was I wrong! Meijer had milk on sale for $2.50 this week. oops!

The Great Grocery Challenge - Week 7

This week turned out pretty good - probably a good thing after last week!

Target: spent $1.46, saved $3.60 (gift card, though)
CVS: spent $9.35, saved $38.34
Meijer: spent $11.12, saved $29.22
Walgreens: spent $8.07, saved $39.70

Sam's Club: spent $20.16 (formula...just 2 more months!)
Soap.com: spent $4.05 (from the Groupon I bought a while back, paid $10 then and got $24.05 worth of products)

Totals: spent $52.75, saved $112.32

Savings of 69%

I've still got quite a stockpile, but I am noticing some things we are running out of that I'm not finding great deals for. To really save, you have to be willing to try other brands on some things and there are just some things I'm not willing to switch on....like ketchup. Personally, I like Heinz. Have you ever seen a coupon for Heinz? I don't think I have. And, now that Drake is almost exclusively on table food, I've got to pick up more fruits which, let's face it, aren't cheap. This could make things interesting but hopefully I'll be able to stick to my goal (or at least come close).

The Great Grocery Challenge - Week 5

This week started off GREAT! I just a few dollars over my $50/week goal and then the dog needed food. :-) It's still better than I was doing before couponing, but not where I want to be. I'm sure that this week is going to go over, too, since we have Thanksgiving and all the Black Friday deals.

On a positive note, I have managed to get our local paper delivered for 13 weeks...for FREE!! We used to subscribe a couple years ago but quit getting it because we weren't really reading it except the ads on Sunday. Not too long ago, we got something to start getting it once a week and then we got the option to get 13 weeks for free! Who would pass that up?

CVS: spent - $1.42, saved $42.45!!

Sam's Club: spent $31.44

Walgreens: spent $2.76, saved $33.56!!

Target: spent $5.71, saved $14.93!

Meijer: spent $13.05, saved $36.89! 2nd trip - spent $31.63, saved $0.67. :-(

My totals were: $86.01, saved $128.50!

I also thought it would be kind of fun to see what the past 4weeks (I didn't document our savings on Week 1.) have done to our household expenses:

Spent:
Week 2 - $86.24
Week 3 - $87.22
Week 4 - $59.26
Week 5 - $86.01

Saved:
Week 2 - $63.26
Week 3 - $131.63
Week 4 - $82.72
Week 5 - $128.50

Totals:
Spent - $318.73, Saved - $406.11!

Not too bad! Not only am I saving my family a TON of money (remember, I was spending about $100 each week), but we have more food in our house than we have EVER had. And, I'm donating more to our church's food pantry. All this work is worth it!
